It is estimated that over 240,000 people in the UK suffer from ME, over 10,000 in the North of England. Northumbria University, The University of Central Lancashire and Manchester Metropolitan University have received £40,000, through the Urban Regeneration project, to work with ME North East to provide support and information for sufferers in the Carlisle area.
