Research and Knowledge Transfer Development Events
The Knowledge Transfer Service will be hosting a series of events over the 2008/09 academic year to support bidding for external research and knowledge transfer funds.
Advance notice of planned events and indicative dates are listed below. Further events will be added and advertised during the year.

EU Framework 7 Successful Proposal Writing Workshop.

EU Successful Proposal Writing Workshop- Framework Programme 7 (Research)
The first call deadlines, under the 2009 Work Programmes of the European Framework Programme 7, are scheduled from the end of November 2008. In advance of this, Knowledge Transfer Service have invited 'Frameworks North West' into UCLan, to hold a workshop.
This workshop is expected to guide potential researchers, on successful proposal writing techniques, including structuring a work plan, putting a consortium together, proposal writing strategies and general handy tips and advice on how to maximise your chances of success under this programme. Anthony Walker from FWNW will be in attendance after the event to answer any specific questions.

ESRC First Grant Scheme Workshop - NEW CONFIRMED

The Economic and Social Research Council have published their annual call for research proposals for their First Grants scheme:
The Economic and Social Research Council is inviting applications for its first grants scheme to assist new researchers and academics at the start of their careers gain experience of managing and leading research projects.
The scheme is open to all staff of higher education institutions and recognised independent research organisations. Applicants should not have previously been principal investigators on research council awards. They should be within six years of the completion of their PhD or equivalent professional standing.
Awards are worth up to £400,000 full economic costs, for a maximum duration of three years.
This presentation will focus on how to apply for this funding and what makes a good application.
Deadline: outline proposals 4pm, 11 December 2008

This presentation is aimed at staff who do not have much experience of applying for External Funding . The presentation will look at:
- how to find out about research and knowledge transfer funding opportunities
- what type of funding opportunities are available
- the types of organisations that fund research and knowledge transfer
- how to find out about research and knowledge transfer funding opportunities and outline the internal support available.
