The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) based in the heart of Preston, has a truly international focus due to its thriving international populations of approximately 1500 students, representing over 40 countries. With formal links with over 120 institutions worldwide there are plenty of opportunities for students to study abroad as part of their degree.
Over the past 10 years UCLan has invested over £50million in new buildings and facilities for the 32,000 students undertaking, full time, part time and, post graduate courses, as well as supporting the 5,000 students studying at our network of partner colleges.
Offering nearly 600 courses including alternative entry routes, foundation degrees, BA/ BSc (Hons) Degrees and more than 3,000 possible combinations of subjects there is surely a qualification to suit everyone including over 180 taught postgraduate programmes. Not only this but UCLan has a research reputation in a range of fields and can offer higher degrees up to MPhil and PhD level, to support this, full time bursaries, research assistantships and fellowships are available. 
Studying at UCLan is not just about gaining your qualifications; it is about developing you as a person and providing you with the opportunity to gain the skills you need for what ever career path you chose. More and more emphasis is on enterprise and employability and through various initiatives students, graduates, alumni and staff are given the opportunity and encouraged to undertake activities such as work placements, enterprise workshops, business start up initiatives and research.
UCLan's Vice-Chancellor is Malcolm McVicar who took up the post on 1 October 1998. Malcolm was educated at the Universities of Exeter and London and previously held the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Portsmouth. His academic interests are in the areas of higher education policy, education management and health policy.
